The ones listed under the fivem-mods tag on Discord directories range from developers’ own communities to leak hubs. The safe places to get mods for a FiveM server are the Cfx.re Marketplace, the FiveM Releases section of the Cfx.re forum, and the GitHub pages and Discords that frameworks link from their own docs. To add a mod, drop its folder into
resources/
, check it has an
fxmanifest.lua
, and add an
ensure
line to
server.cfg
. Here’s the whole process, plus cars, maps, paid scripts and hooking your server up to Discord.

Where FiveM server mods come from

In FiveM, a mod is a resource: a folder with scripts, files and a manifest that your server starts and sends to players. Cfx.re points server owners to two places to find them, the Cfx.re Marketplace and the forum’s FiveM Releases section, both with filters. Framework projects such as ESX, QBCore and Qbox publish their own resources on GitHub and run support Discords linked from their docs.

Source

What you get

Risk

Cfx.re Marketplace

Free and paid resources, filterable by framework or standalone

Low: paid items are delivered to your Cfx.re account

Forum: FiveM Releases

Free community scripts, maps and tools, each with a support thread

Low to medium: read the thread and the code

Framework GitHub pages

The framework core plus its official job, inventory and housing resources

Low, if the link comes from the framework’s own docs

The official Cfx.re Discord

Help and announcements from the FiveM team, linked from docs.fivem.net

Low

Creator Discords and Tebex stores

Paid scripts, cars and MLOs from individual developers

Medium: ask if they sell through the Marketplace or Tebex

“fivem-mods” Discord servers from directory sites

Often leaks, re-uploads and “premade server” packs

High: broken escrow, backdoors, rule breaks

Resources tagged standalone usually don’t depend on any framework, so they’re the easiest first mods for a fresh server. Everything else lists its dependencies on its page; read them before you download.

Are FiveM mods Discord servers safe?

Some are, many aren’t. A developer’s own Discord, or one linked from a framework’s documentation, is usually fine. The FiveM mods Discord servers you find by searching directory sites are often leak hubs, and leaked resources cause three real problems: they often won’t start, they can carry malicious code, and they put you on the wrong side of Cfx.re’s rules.

Escrowed resources won’t run. Paid resources protected by Cfx.re’s asset escrow only start on a server whose key belongs to the account that bought them. Anywhere else the console prints You lack the required entitlement.

Backdoors are common. Cfx.re warns about “prohibited logic”: code that can infect your other resources. FXServer sandboxes resources, so they can’t write into other resources or outside their own folder by default, but anything you grant with
add_filesystem_permission
skips that protection. Cfx.re’s advice is to do that only for resources you trust completely.

Paid resources have accepted routes. Cfx.re’s Resource FAQ lists paid resources sold outside the accepted methods as disallowed. Before you pay someone on Discord, ask whether they sell through the Cfx.re Marketplace or Tebex.

Anticheat resources are allowed; global ban lists and “buy my anticheat or else” protection rackets are not.

What counts as a mod on GTA 5 modded servers

GTA 5 modded servers are FiveM servers: the base game plus whatever resources that community runs. You can’t add mods to GTA Online, so a “GTA 5 mod server” in practice means FXServer with resources. Single-player mods are a different thing, and most of them aren’t welcome on a server.

Mod type

Where it runs

On a FiveM server

Resources (scripts, frameworks, cars, maps, MLOs, clothing)

The server, streamed to players on join

This is how FiveM server mods work

Script Hook V mods and trainers

The player’s PC

Blocked unless
sv_scriptHookAllowed true
, which Cfx.re doesn’t recommend

Client file mods (graphics, textures, sounds)

The player’s PC

Allowed unless the server sets
sv_pureLevel
: level 1 still allows audio and known graphics mods, level 2 blocks all of them

If you want every player to see a car or a custom siren, it has to be a server resource. A client-side mod only changes one person’s game.

How to add mods to a FiveM server

Adding a mod to a FiveM server takes five steps: back up, put the resource folder in
resources/
, confirm it has an
fxmanifest.lua
, add an
ensure
line in
server.cfg
after anything it depends on, then restart and read the console. Dependencies are where most first-timers go wrong.

Back up
server.cfg
, your
resources
folder and your database if the city runs a framework. A bad resource is easier to undo than to debug.

Unzip the download and look inside. You want the folder that contains
fxmanifest.lua
directly. Zips often wrap it in an extra folder, or carry a
-main
suffix from GitHub; rename the folder to the name the resource’s docs use.

Put it in
resources/
, ideally in a category folder such as
resources/[jobs]
or
resources/[cars]
. Folders in [brackets] are categories, not resources, and can hold as many resources as you like. On GTA 5 server hosting from GameTeam, you upload into the same folders through the panel’s file manager.

Add it to
server.cfg
with
ensure
, below its dependencies (see the snippet). Lines run top to bottom.

Start it. Restart the server, or on a live server run
refresh
so FXServer sees the new folder, then
ensure resourcename
. Watch the console for errors as it starts.

# server.cfg: base resources and the framework first
ensure oxmysql
ensure es_extended # or qb-core / qbx_core

# then whole categories
ensure [jobs]
ensure [cars]
ensure [maps]

# then single scripts that depend on the above
ensure my_garage_script

A resource’s manifest tells you its dependencies. Lines like
dependency 'oxmysql'
mean that resource must load first. A
dependencies
block can also demand OneSync (
'/onesync'
), a minimum server build or a game build, so an old artifact or a server without OneSync can stop a new script from starting. Framework resources (ESX, QBCore, Qbox) also expect their database settings in
server.cfg
; the full config walkthrough is in FiveM server config explained.

Old resources may still ship a
__resource.lua
instead of
fxmanifest.lua
. They usually run with a deprecation warning; rename the file and update its contents if you maintain the resource yourself.

Adding cars, maps and MLOs

Cars, maps and MLO interiors are streamed resources: their model files sit in a
stream
folder inside the resource, and the manifest tells the game what they are. Players download them the first time they join, so big packs mean longer first loads. A map or MLO needs
this_is_a_map
; an add-on car needs its
.meta
files registered as data files.

A minimal map or MLO resource, as Cfx.re documents it:

resources/[maps]/my_mlo/
  fxmanifest.lua
stream/ (.ymap, .ytyp, .ydr, .ytd files go here)

-- fxmanifest.lua
fx_version 'cerulean'
game 'gta5'
lua54 'yes'
this_is_a_map 'yes'

A typical add-on car pack registers its meta files with
data_file
lines. Most car downloads ship this manifest already; check it matches the file names before you start it:

fx_version 'cerulean'
game 'gta5'

files {
  'data/vehicles.meta',
  'data/carvariations.meta',
  'data/carcols.meta',
  'data/handling.meta',
}

data_file 'VEHICLE_METADATA_FILE' 'data/vehicles.meta'
data_file 'VEHICLE_VARIATION_FILE' 'data/carvariations.meta'
data_file 'CARCOLS_FILE' 'data/carcols.meta'
data_file 'HANDLING_FILE' 'data/handling.meta'

The model files (
.yft
,
.ytd
) go in the resource’s
stream
folder. Custom clothing needs the
subdir_file_mapping
policy on your server key, which comes with a Cfx.re Element Club tier; resources that need it say so with
'/policy:subdir_file_mapping'
in their dependencies.

Paid and escrowed resources

Paid FiveM server mods are usually escrowed: the Lua code and the models (YFT, YDD, YDR files) are encrypted, and the resource starts only on servers whose license key belongs to the Cfx.re account that bought it. Buy on the account that owns your server key, download from the Portal, and install it like any other resource.

Use the right key. An escrowed car pack bought on a friend’s account won’t run on your server; you’ll see the entitlement error.

Config files stay editable. Developers can exclude files from escrow with
escrow_ignore
, which is why most paid scripts ship an open
config.lua
.

Subscriptions expire. If a resource is sold as a subscription and it lapses, the resource stops starting on your server.

Connect your FiveM server to Discord

Most FiveM communities live on Discord, so the server should point there. Two built-in options cover it: a
sets Discord
line in
server.cfg
puts your invite on the server’s page in the FiveM server list, and txAdmin, which ships with FXServer, has a Discord bot that posts a live status embed and can allowlist players by Discord membership or role.

# server.cfg
sets Discord "https://discord.gg/yourinvite"

Status embed: with txAdmin’s bot set up, type
/status add
in a channel the bot can post in. txAdmin updates it every minute with players online, uptime and the next scheduled restart, and you edit its layout under txAdmin → Settings → Discord Bot.

Discord allowlist: txAdmin’s whitelist can require Discord server membership or a specific Discord role, the usual setup for an application-only RP city.

Discord bot resources: many frameworks have resources that log joins, deaths or admin actions to Discord webhooks. Treat them like any other script: from a trusted source, read before you run.

Troubleshooting FiveM server mods

Symptom

Likely cause

Fix

Console warns the resource “does not have a resource manifest”

The folder you added isn’t the one holding
fxmanifest.lua

Move the inner folder up one level into
resources/

Console says it can’t find the resource

The
ensure
name doesn’t match the folder name, or the server hasn’t rescanned

Match the names exactly, then
refresh
and
ensure

Script errors about missing exports or a nil framework object

A dependency starts after the script, or isn’t installed

Move the framework and
oxmysql
lines above it

“You lack the required entitlement”

Escrowed resource on a key from another Cfx.re account

Buy it on, or use the key from, the account that owns the asset

Resource flagged for “prohibited logic”

Likely malicious code, possibly spread from another resource

Remove it, check your other resources and restore from a clean backup

New car is invisible or spawns as the wrong model

Meta files not registered, or model files outside
stream

Check the
data_file
lines and the
stream
folder; players can clear
server-cache-priv

A new script won’t start on an older server

Its manifest requires OneSync, a newer artifact or game build

Read its
dependencies
, update artifacts or enable OneSync

One failing resource can look like the whole server is down, because everything that depends on it fails too. Read the console from the top and fix the first red line, not the last. Install steps, ports and artifact updates are in how to make a FiveM server.

FAQ

What is the best FiveM mods Discord server?

For help, the official Cfx.re Discord linked from docs.fivem.net and your framework’s own support Discord. For downloads, skip Discord and use the Cfx.re Marketplace and the forum’s FiveM Releases section, where each resource has an author and a support thread.

Can you add mods to a FiveM server without coding?

Yes. Most resources install with a folder copy and one
ensure
line in
server.cfg
. You only edit code when a resource asks you to fill in its
config.lua
, and that’s usually settings, not scripting.

Do players need to download FiveM server mods?

Not manually. FiveM downloads the server’s resources, including cars and maps, when a player joins. Server scripts never leave the server, and resources marked
server_only
aren’t downloaded at all.

Can I use single-player GTA 5 mods on my server?

Not as-is. Script Hook V mods only run for clients if you set
sv_scriptHookAllowed true
, which Cfx.re advises against. Single-player cars and maps can often be repackaged as streamed resources with an
fxmanifest.lua
, if the author allows it.

How many mods can a FiveM server run?

There’s no fixed count. Every resource adds memory use and download size, so plan 4 GB for a light server and 6 to 8 GB once a framework, MLOs and car packs pile up.

Are FiveM server mods allowed by Rockstar?

Resources are what FiveM is built for. What breaks the rules is leaked or resold paid content, paid resources sold outside the Marketplace or Tebex, and monetization Rockstar’s agreement bans.

Skip the setup: let the copilot add the mods

Every step above is a folder, a manifest and a line in a text file, and a wrong order shows up as a city that won’t start. With GTA 5 server hosting on GameTeam you can upload resources in the file manager and still do it by hand, or tell the AI copilot what you want: “I uploaded an MLO to resources/[maps], add it after the framework and restart”. It checks the manifest, writes the
ensure
line in the right place, restarts the server and reads the console to tell you if anything failed. Backups are one click before you try something risky. You pay per GB of RAM, from $0.49/GB a week on Budget or $1.99/GB billed monthly, with no charge per slot.

A FiveM mods Discord server is a Discord community where people share, sell or “leak” FiveM resources.
