Unturned server commands are typed in the server console, in chat with a / or @ in front, or saved one per line in your server’s Commands.dat file. Some set up the server (map, name, password), some moderate it (kick, ban, admin), and some are cheat commands that only work once Cheats is enabled. Below is every command, grouped by what you’d use it for, plus exactly how to enable cheats on a dedicated or LAN server.
How Unturned commands work
Every command can be used in one of three places, and the command list below shows which ones it supports. Config commands go in Commands.dat and apply when the server starts. Runtime commands only work while the server is up. Commands marked “any” work in both places. Cheat commands are runtime commands that also need cheats turned on.
- Server console: type the command as-is, for example
Save. - In-game chat: admins only, with
/or@in front, for example/kick Bob/griefing. - Commands.dat: one command per line in
...\U3DS\Servers\<ServerID>\Server\Commands.dat. Lines starting with//are comments.
Separate parameters with a forward slash: /give Bob/[item ID]/2. Commands aren’t case-sensitive. Type Help in the console for the full list, or Help <command> for one. On Unturned server hosting, the panel console takes the same commands.
How to enable cheats on an Unturned server
To enable cheats on an Unturned server, add a line that just says Cheats to Commands.dat, make yourself an admin, and restart. Cheats only work for admins. On a single-player world you’re always admin. On any server, including a LAN server, it’s these three steps:
- Stop the server and open
Server\Commands.dat. - Add these lines (use your own 17-digit steamID64):
Cheats Owner 76561198000000000 - Start the server, join, and test it with
/give [item ID]in chat.
Other ways to get admin: run Admin <SteamID or name> in the console while you’re online, or add your ID to Adminlist.dat. Without Cheats, admins can still kick, ban and teleport, but Give, Vehicle, Experience and the other cheat commands are refused.

When a command doesn’t work
| Symptom | Fix |
|---|---|
| Chat command does nothing | You’re not admin. Add Owner or run Admin <you> in the console |
Give or Vehicle refused |
Cheats missing from Commands.dat; add it and restart |
| Commands.dat changes ignored | Server was running when you edited, or the file is in the wrong server folder; check the ServerID |
| Multi-part command misreads | Separate parameters with /, not spaces |
Skip the console: let the copilot run the commands
If you’d rather not keep a console window open, Unturned server hosting on GameTeam gives you a 24/7 server with the AI copilot built in. You pay per GB of RAM with unlimited slots, from $0.49/GB a week on Budget or $1.99/GB billed monthly. Tell it “turn on cheats, make me owner and give everyone a starter kit when they spawn” and it edits Commands.dat, adds the Loadout line and restarts the server. Or ask “ban the player who just joined for a week” and it runs the Ban command for you. It can also run Save before any restart, so nothing gets lost along the way.
FAQ
How do I use commands on an Unturned server?
Type them in the server console, or in chat with / or @ in front if you’re an admin. Setup commands go in Commands.dat, one per line.
How do I enable cheats in an Unturned LAN server?
Same as any server: add Cheats and Owner <your steamID64> to Commands.dat and restart.
Where is the Commands.dat file?
In ...\U3DS\Servers\<ServerID>\Server\Commands.dat. The simple setup uses the Default server folder.
What is the max players command in Unturned?
MaxPlayers [number]. The default is 8 and the maximum is 200.
How do I make someone admin?
Run Admin <SteamID or name> in the console, or add their ID to Adminlist.dat. Owner in Commands.dat sets the server owner.
How long is a ban by default?
365 days (31,536,000 seconds) when you don’t give a duration. Add the time in seconds as the third parameter for a shorter ban.
