A Lot of Origins Server Hosting

A Lot of Origins is a Fabric pack built around the Origins mod, expanded to around 40 different origins to choose from. When you join for the first time you pick one, and that choice defines your entire run: a Merling needs to stay wet, a Blazeborn takes damage in water, a Phantom can phase through blocks but burns in daylight, an Elytran can fly but cannot wear chestplates.

The pack takes its shape from the OriginSMP series that popularised the format. It is not about progression or a tech tree — it is about a group of players with genuinely different capabilities trying to survive the same world, which is why it only really works with other people.

This is the part people miss when they first read the origin list. Every power is paired with a real restriction, and the restrictions are severe enough to change how you play, not just flavour text. An origin that cannot eat meat has a completely different early game. An origin that suffocates on land builds its base somewhere else entirely.

On a server that asymmetry is the whole point. The player who can fly scouts, the player who can breathe underwater handles ocean monuments, and the player who burns in sunlight does the mining. Groups that coordinate their picks get much more out of the pack than groups where everyone takes the strongest-looking option.

A Lot of Origins is a Fabric pack. Origins packs move faster than Forge kitchen-sink packs because the Origins mod tracks new Minecraft releases fairly closely, so check the pack version you are installing and match your server to it exactly.

Version matching is not optional here. Origin definitions live in the pack and its datapacks; a client running a different build can end up with an origin the server does not recognise, which either drops the player back to the selection screen or leaves them with powers that do not fire.

Origins packs are light. Fabric plus a modest mod list means 3 to 4 GB handles a small group comfortably, and 6 GB is generous for eight or more players. Most of the pack's content is behaviour rather than blocks and machines, so there is very little constant ticking.

The load on an Origins server comes from players spreading out — flying and phasing origins explore far more of the map far faster than a normal survival group, so terrain generation is usually the heaviest thing your server does in the first week.

• Create a Minecraft server and choose the Fabric build the pack requires.
• Install the pack through the mod installer or by uploading its server files.
• Start the server and let world generation finish before people join.
• Give everyone the identical pack version — this is the number one cause of broken origin selection.
• Decide in advance whether players may re-roll their origin. Once someone has, everyone will want to.

An Origins server where four people all picked Elytran is much less interesting than one where nobody duplicated. It costs five minutes in a group chat and it is the single biggest thing you can do to make the server worth playing past week one.

Origins are meant to be permanent, and the pack is built on the assumption that you live with what you picked. Servers that allow free re-rolls tend to converge on whichever origin is currently strongest, and the asymmetry that made the format fun disappears. If you want to allow changes, tie them to something costly rather than making them free.
