All of Origins Server Overview

What All of Origins actually is

All of Origins is Munsterlandr's origins pack for Minecraft 1.16.5, with over 136,000 downloads on CurseForge. Its own tagline sums it up: tons of origins, and voice chat. On top of a large origin selection, it ships with proximity voice chat, which turns out to matter more than it sounds — an SMP where you hear people as you get close plays very differently from one where everyone is on a separate call.

The pack was designed for multiplayer from the start, with performance mods and quality-of-life additions on top of the origins themselves, and it is one of the packs that made the origins SMP format popular in the first place.

Origins and voice chat together

Origins give each player a distinct set of abilities and limitations — one flies, one cannot touch water, one sees in the dark and burns in the sun. Proximity voice chat adds the layer that makes those differences social: you can only coordinate with someone you can reach, so the player who cannot leave the water is genuinely isolated unless someone goes to them.

That combination is what separates this pack from a plain Origins install. If your group has been running SMPs on Discord, the shift to in-world voice changes the tone of a server significantly, usually for the better.

Which Minecraft version does All of Origins run on?

All of Origins runs on Minecraft 1.16.5 and its last release, version 1.3.2, was published in May 2021. The author has since stopped updating it and has a successor pack on Modrinth, so treat this one as a finished pack rather than a living project.

For a server that is not a problem — a frozen pack means a stable world. It does mean you should install the exact version everyone else is running, and that you will want to pick a newer origins pack if your group specifically wants a modern Minecraft version.

How much RAM does an All of Origins server need?

Plan for 4 GB for a small group and 6 GB for a busier SMP of eight or more. The mod list is not heavy, and the origins themselves cost almost nothing to run — most of what the pack does is change how player abilities behave rather than adding machines that tick.

Voice chat runs alongside the game rather than inside the tick loop, so it does not affect your tick rate, but it does use bandwidth. On a server with a lot of players in one place, that is worth knowing about even though it will not show up as lag.

Starting an All of Origins server on GameTeam

  • Create a Minecraft server and install the pack with its matching loader build.
  • Let the first start complete so world generation and the pack's configs are written.
  • Make sure the voice chat mod's port is reachable — voice runs separately from the game connection.
  • Send everyone the same pack version before they join.
  • Have people pick different origins. A server where everyone chose the same one loses most of what the pack offers.

Check voice chat before your first session

Proximity voice is the feature people are joining for, and it is also the one most likely to need a moment of setup. Have one person connect and confirm voice works before you invite the whole group — sorting it out with eight people already logged in is much harder than sorting it out with one.

It is a finished pack, and that is fine

All of Origins stopped receiving updates years ago, which some groups read as a reason to avoid it. In practice a frozen pack on a stable Minecraft version is one of the easiest things to run a long-term server on: no update will break your world, and the version you start on is the version you finish on.
