Amazing Xray is kesselot's Fabric pack, with over 600,000 downloads on CurseForge. It bundles an xray view that highlights ores and valuable blocks through stone, with a menu for choosing exactly which blocks are shown, plus performance mods and shader support. It is designed to be small, fast and compatible with vanilla servers.

The key word there is client. Everything the pack does happens in the rendering on your own machine — it changes what you see, not what the world contains.

There is nothing to put on the server side, and trying to add a client rendering pack to a server install will usually stop the server starting at all. Run a normal server for whatever Minecraft version your group is on, and let players install their own client packs.

This is why the pack advertises vanilla-server compatibility: it works precisely because the server never knows it is there.

If it is a private server with friends, it means very little — if everyone agrees to use it, it is just a different way to play, and plenty of groups do exactly that on creative-adjacent or casual servers.

If it is a public or competitive server, it matters. Because xray is client-side, no plugin can detect it reliably, and no mod list requirement will keep it out. The only effective answer is to stop sending the information in the first place.

• Anti-xray at the server level. Paper and its derivatives include an engine that obscures hidden blocks before they are sent to the client, so there is nothing to see through the stone.
• Engine mode matters. The stronger mode hides real ores among fake ones and costs more CPU; the lighter mode is cheaper but easier to work around. Pick based on your player count and hardware.
• Watch mining patterns, not mods. Straight tunnels that turn directly toward an ore vein are the signal that actually shows up in logs.
• Set expectations in your rules. On a private server, an agreement is often more effective than any technical measure.

• Create your Minecraft server on the version your group plays — vanilla, Paper or Fabric as appropriate.
• Do not install client-side xray or rendering packs into the server files.
• If you want protection, run Paper and enable its anti-xray settings in the server config.
• Test the setting with one account before rolling it out; overly aggressive anti-xray can affect performance on large servers.
• Decide your server's stance and tell your players. Ambiguity causes more arguments than either answer does.

A lot of confusion around modded servers comes from this one distinction. Content mods that add blocks, items or mobs must be on both sides. Rendering and interface mods — shaders, minimaps, FPS packs, xray — live only on the client. Knowing which category a pack falls into saves a lot of failed server starts.

There are less contentious ways to get there on a server everyone shares: a mining-focused mod that everyone installs, a datapack that increases ore rates, or simply turning ore generation up in the world settings. Those apply to everyone equally, which usually keeps a server together better than half the players quietly using an xray pack.
