Antimatter Chemistry is a questing pack that strands you in the Antimatter dimension with basic gear, a chemistry set and one goal: get home. It is built by SmashingMods and takes its inspiration from the old Anti-Material Energy pack, rebuilt for a newer Minecraft version.

The mod at its centre is Alchemistry, which lets you break blocks and items down into their constituent elements and recombine those elements into something else. Instead of mining for what you need, you work out what it is made of and synthesise it.

Early on you are decomposing dirt and stone to see what falls out, and the quest book is teaching you the notation. Later you are running chains of dissolvers and combiners that turn cheap input into the specific element a recipe demands, and the pack starts to feel like a factory game with a periodic table attached.

That makes it unusually good for a small server. The work splits naturally — someone builds the power, someone runs decomposition, someone follows the quest chain — and the payoff is shared, because every element anyone produces goes into the same pool.

The pack targets Minecraft 1.12.2, and it is still maintained: its 1.4.10 release landed in November 2024. It ships roughly 150 mods and is deliberately built to load quickly and run on modest hardware, which is not something most quest packs of this size can claim.

There is also an unofficial sequel floating around CurseForge under a similar name, so check which one your group means before installing.

4 GB is enough for two or three players and 6 GB covers a normal group comfortably. With around 150 mods and a design that favours performance, this pack is friendlier to a small server than most questing packs of the same era.

The load comes later, when chemistry chains are running continuously. As always in modded Minecraft, that is a CPU problem before it is a memory problem.

• Create a Minecraft server and choose a location near your players.
• Install Antimatter Chemistry from the mod installer and let the first run complete.
• Start the server and confirm the console reaches a clean "Done" before anyone joins.
• Share the exact pack version with your group so clients match the server.
• Enable backups once the first chemistry setup is running — these builds represent hours of work.

Once you can decompose anything into elements, the question stops being "where do I find this" and becomes "what is this made of and what do I have spare". That inversion is the whole appeal of the pack, and it is why players who bounce off ordinary tech packs often stay with this one.

The book is doing real teaching here, not just handing out rewards. Skipping it means guessing at recipes that assume you understand the notation, so let the person who enjoys reading run ahead and brief everyone else.
