What an Attack on Titan pack actually is

There is no single official Attack on Titan modpack. What exists is a family of community packs built around the same core mods — most of them include Danny's AOT, which alone has passed 490,000 downloads on CurseForge and provides the two things the setting needs: titan shifting and a proper ODM gear movement system.

On top of that base, the popular packs differ mostly in scope. Attack on Titan Online is the largest of them at well over 100,000 downloads and is built as a multiplayer roleplay experience. Awakening of the Titans and Shingeki no Kyojin are smaller packs with their own takes. If your group has not picked one yet, choose based on whether you want structured roleplay or a sandbox to fight titans in.

What the mods actually add

  • ODM gear. Grapple-based movement that changes how the whole game feels. It has a real learning curve, and most of the fun on a server is the group getting good at it together.
  • Titans. Large, aggressive mobs that behave nothing like vanilla hostiles — they path toward players over long distances and are only vulnerable at the nape.
  • Titan shifting. The ability for a player to transform, which in a group setting is usually the thing everyone is playing for.
  • Blades and gas. Consumable equipment that puts a real resource loop under combat instead of letting anyone fight forever.
  • Walls and structures. Most packs add themed building blocks so a group can actually construct a walled settlement to defend.

Which Minecraft version do AOT packs run on?

This depends entirely on the pack you choose, and it is the first thing to check. The AOT mod ecosystem is spread across several Forge versions, and packs built on different bases are not compatible with each other. Pick the pack first, note its Minecraft and Forge version, and make sure every player installs that exact build.

Because these are community packs rather than one maintained project, version discipline matters more than usual. Half a group on one pack version and half on another is the single most common reason an AOT server fails to fill up on its first night.

How much RAM does an Attack on Titan server need?

These packs are mod-light compared to kitchen-sink packs, but titan mobs are large entities with heavy pathfinding, and that is what costs you. For a small group of two to four, 4 GB is usually enough. For a roleplay server with eight or more players and titans spawning across a wide area, plan for 6 to 8 GB.

The real constraint is CPU, not memory. Entity pathfinding runs on a single thread, so a server full of active titans will hit tick problems long before it runs out of heap. Keeping titan spawn rates sane is more effective than adding RAM.

Starting an Attack on Titan server on GameTeam

  • Decide as a group which AOT pack you are playing before anything else, and note its exact version.
  • Create a Minecraft server, then install the pack — either from the mod installer if it is listed, or by uploading the pack's server files.
  • Match the Forge and Java version to what the pack requires; older AOT packs need older Java runtimes.
  • Start the server and check the console until the world has finished generating.
  • Send everyone the same client pack version, and expect the first session to be mostly ODM practice.

Tune titan spawns before you invite people

Default spawn settings in most AOT packs are tuned for solo play. On a server with several players loading chunks in different places, the same settings produce far more titans than intended — which is both unplayable and hard on the tick rate. Lower the spawn rate first, then raise it if the group wants more pressure.

These packs are better with rules than without

Titan shifting is powerful, and a server where everyone shifts at will loses the tension that makes the setting work. The AOT servers that last usually agree on something — limited shifters, a squad structure, a walled settlement to defend — before the first session rather than after the first argument.
