What Age of the Blood Moon actually is

Avatar: Age of the Blood Moon is JrobLive's 1.12.2 pack, with over 107,000 downloads on CurseForge. It assembles a set of mods to make the world feel like Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra — bending as the core mechanic, plus the animals and atmosphere of the series.

There is also a more recent fan-made version by a different author. They are separate packs rather than versions of one another, so decide which your group is playing before anyone downloads anything.

Bending as a class system

Each element plays differently — different abilities, different range, different role in a fight. On a server that functions as a class system, and it works best when the group treats it as one: someone takes water, someone takes earth, someone takes fire, someone takes air.

That is also why this pack is far better with people than alone. Bending abilities are balanced against each other, and that balance only shows up when there is someone on the other side of it.

Which Minecraft version does it run on?

The original pack runs on Minecraft 1.12.2 with Forge. That version needs an older Java runtime, which the panel sets when you install the pack — trying to run a 1.12.2 pack on a modern Java is the most common reason it will not start.

Everyone needs the same pack build. Bending abilities are validated server-side, so a mismatched client typically connects and then finds its abilities silently do nothing.

How much RAM does a Blood Moon server need?

Plan for 4 to 5 GB for a normal group, 6 GB for a larger roleplay server. The pack adds a lot of world and creature content but very little always-on machinery, so it sits below a tech pack of similar size.

Bending effects cost during fights — abilities move blocks and spawn entities — so a server built around large PvP battles wants more headroom than one built around building and roleplay.

Starting an Age of the Blood Moon server on GameTeam

  • Decide which Blood Moon pack your group is using, and note its exact version.
  • Create a Minecraft server, install the pack, and set Java to match 1.12.2.
  • Let the first start finish before anyone connects.
  • Set spawn protection before people start bending near it.
  • Spread the elements across the group so the server has a full set.

These packs reward roleplay servers

A bending pack played as ordinary survival is fine but forgettable. Played as a setting — nations, a temple, a group of players who actually stay in their roles — it becomes something people remember. If your group has ever wanted to try a roleplay server, this is one of the easier packs to do it with, because the mechanics already give everyone a distinct identity.

Earthbending and other people's builds

Bending moves terrain, and terrain includes things people built. Agree on where bending is allowed before someone rearranges the group's base by accident. A simple rule — no bending inside the settlement — prevents most of the arguments these packs otherwise produce.
